A pretty good month all round for the world’s stock markets as the US (more specifically, US tech stocks) continued to perform strongly.
There were also signs earlier in the month that the US/China trade war could be coming to an end, however by the end of the month things were looking rather precarious again.

With a Brexit deal now looking more likely and an easing of the US/China trade war, stock market returns have moved positive in most areas of the world this month.
But there is still much to resolve, so expect more twists and turns to come.

Brexit really has dominated the news this month more than other months, and that’s saying something!
It seems as soon as you write and publish something about Brexit, the whole thing changes.
As for world stock markets, it has generally been a positive month but as always there are potential risks around the corner.

Good news for stock markets this month as two of the major threats to world markets appear to have subsided for now.
The US Federal Reserve has decided they will take it easy with regards to raising future interest rates and Trump has decided to make friends with China again.
With a Presidential election coming up next year, no US President ever wants to go into an election with the economy in recession do they?!

After December’s sharp reminder that stock markets can go down as well as up, January has been relatively calm with most markets returning positive performance figures for the month.
Did you shop in the stock market sales of December and grab yourself some bargains?
The usual themes are still hanging over world stock markets. The US/China trade war, rising interest rates and Brexit. But underlying economies remain fairly strong meaning there could be some more life yet left in the current economic cycle.
