As I’ve said before, I love technology, but I especially love technology that saves me time when I’m out and about seeing clients which is why I’m always researching business travel apps.
I thought I would share my 3 current favourites that I always seem to be using at the moment as I’m sure that if you travel for your business you will find them useful.
Business travel apps that save you time and are just plain handy
If you are someone that travels around a lot by car then you need this app!
Did you know that even if you only drive your car for 25 miles per week for your business you can still claim over £500 for the year tax free.
Working it out and remembering to claim can be a pain but Tripcatcher make it so much easier.
With their built in mileage calculator using HMRC mileage allowance rates you download the app, start recording your journey via GPS and then at the end hey presto, your miles are recorded and the claim payment worked out.
Better still, if you use Xero accounting software, the data from Tripcatcher can be sent into Xero as an expenses claim.
The cost is £1.49 per month and you can get a free 14 day trial.
Do you have lots of different bank cards? Debit and credit cards for your business, multiple personal credit and debit cards?
I will quite often change banks or open new accounts to a) take advantage of offers and b) to try out new accounts from challenger banks.
But it becomes a real pain when I have to carry all my cards everywhere so I make sure I use the right account at the right time.
It’s also quite easy to mistakenly pay with your personal card when it should have been a business payment.
Well Curve have designed the only card you will need. It’s basically a Mastercard that all your other payment cards can link to.
Using the Curve app you then control which bank account you want the payment to come out of. All transactions are recorded in the app and you can see all your transaction history in one place.
No need to take all your cards with you, just take your Curve card and pay with that.
It even has a really cool ‘back in time’ feature where, if you spend on the wrong account you can reverse it and change the account afterwards using the app.
Again if you are a Xero user, business purchases made with the Curve card can sync straight into the accounting software.
The basic Curve card is free and you can even earn cashback rewards.
I purposely don’t have an office as I want to keep my costs low so I can pass the savings on to my clients.
As well as working from home I also love working at co-working spaces.
For anyone who is not familiar with the ‘co-working space’ term, it is basically an office space where lots of individuals from different businesses come together to work and network. The spaces usually have all the normal office facilities like WiFi, kitchens and toilets. You drop in and out when you want.
It’s great meeting like minded people and you can be very productive as everyone is there to work.
An app I find really useful for finding spaces I can use is called Get Croissant (what a name!). Now admittedly the app only provides locations in the UK in London at the moment (although has other areas in the world you can use) but if you do travel around London quite often, this app is great.
Once you have an account, you can search and reserve spaces at any of the locations in London. Just turn up, sign in with your phone and then work away.
Costs start from £29 per month for 10 hours and you can pay more for more space. I find this much easier and flexible than committing to renting the same space for a set period of time.
